- Journey-level technicians received extensive training in various areas, with a significant emphasis on battery-electric safety and drivetrains. This training enhanced their skills and knowledge to meet the evolving demands of the industry.
**Fleet Manager Training:**
- Fleet managers gained insights into grants and incentives, regulatory updates, emerging technologies and fuels, and ZEV transition planning. This training equipped fleet managers with the necessary tools to navigate the complexities of modern fleet management.
**Specification Writers Training:**
- Specialized training for specification writers covered the critical differences in specifications between ZEVs and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, particularly focusing on vocational work trucks.
**Vehicle Displays:**
- The expo featured displays of mostly zero-emission vehicles, including light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles.
**Event Producers and Partners:**
The event was produced by the Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition in partnership with the Municipal Equipment Maintenance Association (MEMA), the East Bay Clean Cities Coalition, and the Sac Metro Air District.
**Pre-Training and Orientation Programs:**
Prior to the main event, pre-training orientation programs were conducted for young adults interested in careers as auto technicians and electricians, with a focus on ZEV and electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE). The initial cohort consisted of approximately 100 individuals who participated in:
- Tours of auto maintenance facilities with ZEVs
- Visits to apprenticeship training sites operated by SMUD
- Sessions at the American River College Auto Technician and Electrician programs
In collaboration with the California Mobility Center, participants also received hands-on training with EVSE equipment. Another group of 100 participants is scheduled for 2024, with ongoing efforts supported by available grant funds. Select individuals from these programs were invited to assist and observe at the Fleet Academy & Expo.
**Fleet Decarbonization Initiatives:**
The Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition is actively engaged in several fleet decarbonization programs, including:
- Monthly outreach programs featuring educational presentations and equipment displays for fleet managers.
- A partnership with Green Tech to operate a zero-emission Transportation Hub in a Traditionally Underserved Community.
- Grants to establish eight new Transportation Hubs in Traditionally Underserved Communities.
- A grant for implementing five Commercial Transportation Hubs for small fleets, including a Truck Depot with EVSE and hydrogen refueling infrastructure.
The Fleet Academy & Expo was a pivotal event for advancing the skills and knowledge of industry professionals while promoting sustainable and zero-emission transportation solutions.
