April 27: Earth Day - EV Ambassadors

On Sunday, April 27th, the Environmental Council of Sacramento held their annual Sacramento Earth Day event in Southside Park. Present at the event were six EV Ambassadors, students enrolled in a workforce development program to advocate for sustainable transportation. Cooperatively run by Green Technical Education and Employment (Green Tech) and the Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition with funding from the Sac Metro Air District, the program offers Twin Rivers Unified School District high school students the opportunity to gain experience speaking to Sacramento community members about electric vehicles and emissions reductions.

The EV Ambassadors interacted with attendees in the "Electric Avenue" section of the event by greeting them, speaking to them about the electric vehicles on display, and handing out EV buyer's guides and informational material on current EV and hybrid vehicle models. The Ambassadors also had a chance to speak with EV owners who had their cars on display, as well as direct community members towards SMUD's ride-and-drive event where attendees could test-drive and ride in a wide range of EVs for free.

This was the first event of many that the Ambassadors will have the opportunity to attend. Each Ambassador gained valuable experience in public speaking, and learned more about different EV models from speaking to EV owners about their vehicles.
