Mark Wenzel, a climate change advisor at the Cal EPA, opened the workshop with a presentation outlining California’s 2030 & 2050 Climate Goals. Earlier this year, the most ambitious GHG reduction target in North America was established, urging businesses, fleets, and individuals alike to follow more efficient practices to meet these emission reductions. Sacramento Clean Cities Silver Sponsor, Vision Fleet (VF), realizes these goals, knowing that clean vehicles are the future of fleets. Pete Mickartz, director of sales at VF, followed Wenzel with an overview of how VF provides planning and support to make it simpler and more affordable for organizations to deploy electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles within their fleet.
Mickartz further discussed Vision Fleet’s capabilities with the 2014 Case Study of the deployment of over 400 EV’s in Indianapolis. VF provided optimized services to the city through the analysis of several aspects of their fleet, and a little over one year later, Mickartz was able to show that this program is delivering up to its CO2, gasoline, and cost reduction goals. VF is currently working on an analysis of the City of Sacramento fleet, showing promising preliminary cost savings and emission reductions. These case studies shed light on the feasibility of EV adoptions in public fleets, removing the stigma that alternative fuel technologies are economically impractical to implement in a company’s practices.
Judy Robinson,Take Charge Sacramento, followed Mickartz with a brief update of the EV Infrastructure Implementation Plan in the region. As the number of EV’s continue to increase in Sacramento, the quantity, type of chargers, and most efficient location for chargers must be analyzed. Randy Wilde, Clean Transportation Project Associate at the Center for Sustainable Energy, closed out the workshop with an update on electric vehicle voucher programs in California. The California Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP) has served as a driver in accelerating the transition of vehicles from fossil fuels to electricity, and continues to do so with thousands of dollars in rebates available for both individuals and fleets alike.
