AmeriPride, a family owned company for over 125 years, has taken great steps to preserve environmental quality. Their commitment to sustainability is especially apparent within their fleet and transportation services. AmeriPride has adapted several technological applications to their fleet such as automatic idle shut off parameters and GPS devices on most fleet vehicles. Through these applications, special attention is given to discovering more efficient routes, ensuring idling reductions, and monitoring speeding. More than 359,000 excess miles driven and 6,228 tons of CO2 released into the atmosphere have been reduced directly from these efforts.
AmeriPride is also making a continued effort to transition to a more environmentally friendly fleet. Since 2010, over 40 percent of their fleet has been replaced with more fuel efficient models. Looking to the future, AmeriPride plans to pilot electric, propane and CNG alternative vehicles within several of their markets. Working within the existing fleet, AmeriPride also added trailer skirting on all semi-trailers that travel more than 50 miles per day, which resulted in a 5.3% increase in mileage efficiency.
From a production standpoint, AmeriPride has made sizeable changes with their facility to increase sustainability and maximize their efforts. Skylights were added to the building infrastructure to incorporate more natural light and reduce energy costs. Energy efficient inverter drive washers and dryers with gas modulation motors have replaces open pocket washing machines and older dryers, effectively reducing energy consumption by over 15% and lessen exhaust emissions. Their facility’s water heater and boiler have been replaces with more efficient models allowing them to reduce their carbon footprint by the equivalent of taking 120 cars off the road,
AmeriPrides’s commitment to environmental sustainability has earned them recognition as a leader of clean operations within the Sacramento region. With an eye for innovation and efficiency, AmeriPride makes a constant effort to identify and employ new programs that complement their sustainable operations.
